Refined grains / flours have no bran in them. In the case of wheat flour, even the germ is missing (More here). When these foods are consumed, glucose / blood sugar levels immediately shoot up. The body produces excess insulin to lower the blood sugar levels. If this goes on for a long time, the body keeps pumping out large quantities of insulin and usually develops insulin resistance. The pancreas might also stop producing insulin. Either way, the glucose levels start to shoot up, resulting in diabetes.
Millets, being whole grains (try polishing a grain of ragi!) release lesser percentage of glucose and over a longer period of time, thus lowering the risk of diabetes.

Do you know we consume at least 1500 liters of water per day! For a cup of coffee requires 140 liters of water as much as 4000 liters of water for 1 kg of rice or wheat to produce.
Promote and create awareness for consumption millets. Through campaign in Internet, market tools, Road show, distribution of notes in Malls, printing notes in educational institutions, hotels, creating media awareness in TV, Newspaper, social media and interaction with individuals and team,
Millets are amazing in their nutrition content. Each of the millets is three to five times nutritionally superior to the widely promoted rice and wheat in terms of proteins, minerals and vitamins.
Together we fight against hunger, by twitting “I eat Millets”, Millets is God grain to save the Universe.

kodo millets (Paspalum scrobiculatum L.) a food grain will grow in Mars
kodo millets (Paspalum scrobiculatum L.) a food grain will grow in Mars Kodo millet (Paspalum scrobiculatum L.) is one of the small grain cereals with cultivation history of more than 3,000 years in Indian sub-continent. Wider adaptability, easy cultivation, ability to tolerate the biotic and abiotic stresses have made this crop as a major component of dry farming ecosystem. The crop is not as important in terms of world food production but it is essential as a food in their agro-ecosystem. The grain is enclosed in hard, corneous, persistent husks that are difficult to remove. The grain may vary in colour from light red to dark grey. Hence we believe it can grow in Mars and possibly will help future Man landing at Mars.

hi,
varagu and all other millets- samai, thenai, kuthiravali etc other than raagi and kambu can be cooked just like rice. you can make it like tomato rice or fried rice or flavor it any way you like. just have to remember the texture and consistancy will be different from rice. it defenitely has more character.
