It is fairly late in the season for planting Kodo millet in most parts of the India … But yes, you can get these in their seed form.
Please contact the AICRP in small millets or the Centre for Excellence in small millets, both based out of the UAS, Bangalore (please dial the general number +91-80-2333-0153/2333-0984 and ask to be connected to their office.) Another potential source for seeds would be the Small Millets program in TNAU in Coimbatore.
Among those promoting millet cultivation in the private/ngo sector there are many organizations. You can write to order@earth360.in and ask for details before placing an order. Sahaja Seeds is another organization that has many different native variety seeds…
Whenever writing to any of these, do mention where you are and how much area you wish cultivate and ask them to send a package of practice to assist you with cultivation timings and practices.
Hope this helps.

Dear Members,
Greetings from SanLak Agro-Industries Pvt. Ltd.!
We are a new social enterprise based in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu with a goal towards Empowering subsistence farmers who depend on rain-fed irrigation. From a nutritional and food security perspective, we believe that small millets are the food of the future. We supply unpolished and semi-polished small millets through two of our brands, ‘Smilyfe’ and ‘SanLak Grains and Cereals’, respectively. As mentioned earlier in the blog discussion by other contributors, we believe that eating millets with the bran offers myriad nutritional benefits and therefore, we do not sell fully polished minor millets. We process and pack our millets to the highest quality and hygiene standards through machinery with food grade grain contact areas. We welcome any enquiries for direct purchase or distribution/retail of small millets across India. You may contact directly through the following numbers:

One really has to verify the authenticity of these ventures. Preferably buy directly from the farmers. As you can see all the products are overpriced…

Dear Sir/Madam,
I am not sure which seller’s products you are referring to.
Please note that the sellers advertising themselves in the comments section are not verified. We, the moderators of this blog, do not vouch for any sellers or products being referred / promoted through the comments section – we only moderate to maintain sensibility and decorum and do not verify products, sources or claims.
On the other hand, the ventures listed on our Where to Buy page are genuine organizations / companies selected from a whole number of different entities selling millets in todays market place. If you have specific information which makes you feel a particular entry in the Where to Buy page should not be listed, please do write to us and we shall review it and take appropriate action.
Most families shopping for millets today are new to it. Unfortunately, the urge to correct ways is stronger than the urge to know what is better and what is not. So we have quite a few unscrupulous elements in the market exploiting this situation and over pricing products, as you rightly pointed out.
Yes, I do agree that it is preferable to buy directly from farmers. This is a relatively easier proposition with regard to vegetables and fruits. With grains one has to clean and grade them to get the cooking quality we expect from most of our ingredients when we prepare our food these days. This takes either (i) a little bit skill so that one can do it manually, which not everyone has today or (ii) a few machines and the skill to use them correctly, which again is not accessible to many.
So it is not fair to expect farmers to be able to process millets to a ready to cook form, or that all those entrepreneurs or companies selling millets are fleecing consumers.
Please see this article to understand a little bit more about the cost of different millet rices in the retail market today, this article works out how much a whole grain millet rice based meal would cost, and this article to help identify good quality small millet rices in the market place.

my whole family started eating foxtail and little millets instead of rice. But if i compare the price of millets with rice, its expensive. But still we decided to eat only millets as w saw advantages of eating them. Here I’m just curious to understand why millets are expensive as i heard growing millets is easy. Can u please help to understand more on this?
FYI: of course we buy inorganic brown rice for 53 rupees.

Hello Bobby, thank you for writing to us. These days pricing of a product depends more on the supply chain than the production itself. While millet cultivation is indeed much easier than other cereals such as paddy and wheat, it is not as wide spread and there are many gaps in the supply chain leading to escalated risks and therefore buffering.
Having said this, there are unscrupulous elements selling polished white millets for the price of the much more nutritious whole grain millets, which costs a whole lot more process and get to a consumer.
Please look for whole grain, I.e. unpolished and colour full millets when shopping, either in a store or online.
Hope this answers done of your Qs…

Dear Subbanna sir, thank you for writing to us !
Delivery is a cost that some retailers are absorbing to build their customer base. But that is not true with all of them ….
There are some millet focused, and even millet only enterprises, such as Kaulige Foods (kaulige.com), who are giving free home delivery within a 15kms radius of their shop in BLR.
Yes, we share your observation- millets are slowly becoming acceptable and famous. And making them affordable will bring it within the reach of a lot bigger slice of the population. I shall share some thoughts on the pricing of millet rice in a post shortly and I would love to hear your thoughts on that.
