I am Dr. O.P. Dubey, working in millet crops since last 25 years and developed so many varieties from Dindori. There is sufficient kodo millet is available at Dindori and Mandla district in MP.
Dear Sir, thank you for your note. Quite a few individuals and organizations from that area are now working to popularize millets and bring them back in people’s diets too. I shall write to you personally to know more about your work.
Hi.. I am from Bagepalli…. I have 200kgs of Foxtail millets which are cultivated in our fields. I want to learn De-husking of millets. I have a plan to Visit Earth 360. Also want to purchase some other millets for Cultivation. You people allowed me to inside to see processing.
Dear Ram,
Thank you for writing to us. Very happy to hear about your foxtail millet harvest. Do talk to our friends in Earth360 by email or phone before you take your grains there for dehusking.
I am planning to go there to sort and pick out seeds from their facility. Please write to me if you have a specific requirement and I shall include that in the list when calculating how much seeds to prepare.
Kodo millet is commonly referred to as कोदौ या कोदो या कोदरा
It is difficult to find in north India, but is fairly easily available in south Indian cities and on online stores. Do share some information on where you live and what quantities you would need and we might be able to get you in touch with a supplier who can ship it to you.
Dear Niraj, thank you for writing to us ! Please share some more information of where you are looking to set up the plant and what would be the scale of processing you seek.
Dear Sir, My native place is Hangal, Dist: Haveri in Karnataka, in our area we are facing challange of uncertain rainfall, does millets can be a better choice in such circumstances? If yes, I request for your guidance in cultivation of millets, since we have 3 acres of dry land (dependent on rain fall)
thanking you.
Dear Harsha,
Yes, millets are dry land, rain fed crops that can survive extended dry spells and deal reasonably well with down pours too. There are a few farmers groups in Haveri Dt. cultivating millets. I shall email you their contacts, do get in touch with them directly.
Dear Nijagunadev, thank you for writing to us. There are thousands of farmers growing kodo millet and I would estimate about a hundred or so dealers of the grains in different parts of India.
Please let us know where you are located. And if you are looking for seeds to sow or kodo millet rice to cook and eat, do clarify.
Earth 360 in Kadiri, Dt. Anantapur, AP does process Kodo millets to edible forms. Please contact Dinesh (mail@earth360.in) to get more details. But given the distance, it may not be practical … unless there is say a truck load that you can send and get it back in a couple of days. You would need to work out the details in consultation with Dinesh.
I would suggest finding a good storage space first and securing the grains. Then get a group together to start learning millet processing and set up a millet processing unit in one of the production centers. As I mentioned in the earlier comment, I shall get in touch with you in the next few days.
Thanks. Appreciate if Dinesh Mobile number can be passed on and the approx cost of setting up a kodo millet unit. In our area Satna Rewa in MP the vagaries of monsoon and weather have shaken the confidence in modern crops which are so very sensitive. Every year govt is distributing compensation to kisans so that they do not commit suicide ! I would like to try and support the old millet and traditional grains which are now proven healthier and better than the so called modern seeds. Cancer in villages which was so rare has grown phenomenally thanks to the change in eating content and pollution from cement factories using fly ash, So has the cardio vascular diseases. I look forward to some more information and am ready to invest in promoting the millet and organic farming and their uses in daily lives. Regards Avinash
Dear Avinash Sir, it was great talking to you earlier in the week. As discussed, we will continue the conversation over email and phone and more importantly, look to reviving millet cultivation and consumption in the Satna-Rewa area.
